EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & CLUBS

Although not a comprehensive list, these are some of the activities that are provided at École Viscount Alexander.  These may vary from year to year.

MeToWe Club

MeToWe Club is a social justice group of students accompanied by supervision teachers, who meet one lunch hour per week.  Representatives attend We Day at the beginning of the school year.  They also organize, promote and run several MeToWe initiatives throughout the year in an effort to raise awareness and money for MeToWe.  Some examples of initiatives include We Are Silent, We Bake for Change, Rafiki bracelets and We Create Change.  The club is open to all students.

Peer Tutoring

École Viscount Alexander has teamed up with Vincent Massey Collegiate to provide peer tutoring to students.  Grade 8 students interested in tutoring attend a training session at Vincent Massey and are then partnered with a grade 5 to 7 student looking for support in various academic areas.  Grade 8 students also have the option of receiving tutoring from Vincent Massey students.

Breakfast Program

Healthy food choices are provided each morning from 8:00 a.m. to 8:25 a.m. in the multi-purpose area for students who require a supplement to their breakfast at home.  The program is open to all students.

Musical

Over 50 students participate in the 2022-2023 bilingual musical presentation Lea Merveilles de la lampe.  During the months leading up to the May 2023 performance, students engaged in a wide variety of song, dance, and acting workshops provided by Viscount teachers, staff and members of the community.  This was our annual production and generated much excitement and enthusiasm in the school!

GSA Club

The GSA club celebrates sexual orientation and gender diversity.  The GSA club is open to all students in Grades 5-8.  The GSA club is working to build a community that is safe for all students regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.  Students have worked on fundraisers, awareness campaigns, Pride celebrations, discussion groups and participated in workshops with local community organizations.  The GSA club is a club in constant evolution and is always finding new ways to celebrate diversity in the community and at École Viscount Alexander.

EVA Running Club

Every year at Viscount we offer a Running Club during the warmer months of the school year. This year we ran during lunch from 11:55-12:25 on Day 3's in the months of September and October and we start up again from April to June. Students from all grades are welcome to join! We run a route near the scenic Wildwood Gold Course that is approx 3km. It’s a great opportunity to get some exercise, enjoy the fresh air and to connect with other students and staff in the school. It’s fun to run!

Leadership Opportunities

ÉVA’s students work to provide voice of the student population, and to provide enriching and engaging experiences for our school community. Leadership opportunities rotate to each class during the year.  Students are involved in announcements, keeping our monthly character trait themes alive as well as helping organize fun activities, such as the Terry Fox Run, skits, videos, random acts of kindness, fundraising for charitable organizations, just to name a few.

 Grade 5/6 Sports

Here at EVA, we offer grade 5/6 students the opportunity to develop their skills and understanding of various sports in a developmental atmosphere.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in two tournaments over the course of each season to put what they have practiced, into play.  We start off the year by offering flag football, volleyball and basketball, and then continue this trend with Ultimate Frisbee and Outdoor Track Waterpolo is also offered to Gr. 6-8 students. Students can learn about a sport they have never played before or continue to progress in this supportive environment.

 Grade 7/8 Sports

Here at EVA, we offer students of any grade level the opportunity to participate in a variety of division sports including Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Indoor Track, Outdoor Track, Ultimate Frisbee and Waterpolo.  There is always something to do for athletes at every ability level.  Students are formed into teams and offered the opportunity to participate in a league that is appropriate for their skill level to further their abilities and to encourage growth.  Weekly practices and games, in addition to tournaments, allow students to progress substantially over the course of any given season.

 Leadership Program

Here at EVA, we offer students of any grade level the opportunity to take part of the Leadership Opportunities available to them.  They can help with running the canteen, keeping score at athletic events, helping with school wide activities and refereeing intramurals.  Students meet monthly and are assigned various duties that fit their schedules.  This gives then the ability to "step up" and lead by example, culminating in a "Thank you" each term (pizza lunches or field trips just for them).  These students are extremely helpful and a representative of EVA students at each grade level.

Intramurals

Student at EVA are offered the opportunity to participate in the Intramurals program that is offered during the lunch hour.  Students can form their own teams and compete against other teams at sports such as indoor soccer, touch football, basketball, handball and floor hockey, amongst others.  Intramurals start in September and run through until May, when they are encouraged to take advantage of the nice weather and play outdoors.  It is a great way for students to be active in a social atmosphere.

 Walk-a-thon

In October, students here at EVA participate in a Walk a thon.  They are encouraged to collect pledges over the course of a two-week period, with incentives given over the course of that collection period.  At the end, high earners are rewarded with fantastic prizes (in the past - iPads, iTunes gift cards, Polo Park gift cards, etc...) as well as those who brought in a minimum of $20, as their names were put in a draw and pulled for duplicates of the fantastic prizes for that year.  The funds that are collected go towards subsidizing the cost of field trips, technology, clubs, programming, athletics programs, and enriching their experience here at EVA.
