LM is excited to share our schoolwide inquiry focus for this academic year: Peace and Justice, inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #16. This goal emphasizes promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, ensuring access to justice for all, and building strong, accountable communities.
Our guiding question for the year is:
“What actions can we take to build a peaceful, fair, and inclusive community at school and beyond?”
Throughout the year, classes will explore this question through projects, discussions, and celebrations that highlight diversity, empathy, and global citizenship.
We kicked off our inquiry with a beautiful initiative led by UNESCO: students created paper doves for our UNESCO tree, each featuring the word “peace” written in the many languages spoken in our school community. This symbolizes our commitment to peace through understanding and respect.
Part of peace is learning about and celebrating the cultures of our community members. For example, Grade 5/6C created vibrant diya lanterns to celebrate Diwali, sharing what they light their diya for and ways they feel peace around them —hope, happiness, friendship and harmony.
For Remembrance Day, we added poppies for “we show peace” and made connections to our school goal tying it to Remembrance Day.
We look forward to the many paths this inquiry will take us on as we work together to create a school environment where every voice is heard and valued.
Stay tuned for more stories as our students lead the way toward peace and justice!
