Inter-School Athletics

Inter-School Programs

Here at EVA, we have a no cuts philosophy. This means that everyone who wishes to play on a team will be placed on a team that is appropriate for their skill level. All are welcome. We promote life long activity and foster an environment that is supportive of development and learning.

In Grades 5 and 6, students will be participating on teams by grade. In Grades 7 and 8, students will be participating on teams that are divided by ability level. We have a ‘no cuts’ policy at EVA, so everyone will be placed on a team that is appropriate for their skill level, allowing people who have never tried a sport before to get a taste at an ability level that’s appropriate for them, and allowing those who have played a particular sport for a while to play with peers of the same ability level.

We wanted to give you a brief overview of what you can expect this year from the EVA Athletics Department.

Divisional Sports - Grade 7/8

Our school division offers interschool competitions for cross country, volleyball, basketball, badminton and outdoor track and field. This means students will be playing against teams from other schools and may need to travel to games.

In addition to divisionally organized sports, EVA also participates in the Athletics Manitoba Indoor Track ‘Track Attack’ Series.

Notes:

* Students are required to arrange transportation to and from games that are held outside of school hours on their own. This is not the responsibility of the coaches.

* Schedules are handed out at the beginning of each athletics season with a comprehensive list of practives and games so that families can plan accordingly

Divisional Sports - Grade 5/6

Our school division offers interschool competitions for cross country, flag football, volleyball, basketball, badminton and outdoor track and field. This means students will be playing against teams from other schools and may need to travel to games.

In order to facilitate planning, practices for all Grade 5/6 programs are held at lunch and EVA volunteers to host friendship tourneys for volleyball and basketball. This alleviates the need for parents to provide transportation for their students.

In addition to divisionally organized sports, EVA also participates in the Athletics Manitoba Indoor Track program.

Schedules for the grade 7/8 volleyball season have been handed out. Please have your child pick up their schedule/check trumba for the dates.

Waterpolo – 5,6,7,8

Waterpolo is the only sport not run directly through the PE department. A teacher on staff often runs this program (thank you to them!). It is for grades 5,6,7,8 – both males and females and runs from Sept-Dec. There is one practice after school weekly and 1-3 games on Sundays. There is a $75 fee for this program for team fees and insurance. All events take place at Pan Am pool.
