In grades 9 and 10 compulsory science
courses students are provided with diverse opportunities to develop foundational
skills and attitudes through a survey of general scientific principles and concepts.
In grades 11 and 12 students have the
option of specializing in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics courses. As students develop their scientific literacy
there is an increasing focus on inquiry through laboratory investigations and
research projects. Students entering
into grade 11 who have demonstrated an interest in Chemistry or Physics and a
high level of academic achievement in science and math may, by recommendation
of their teacher, be invited into honours programming. Honours courses offer students a first year
university equivalent experience through a greater focus on mathematical
manipulation of variables, conceptual understanding of scientific theories and
models, and additional laboratory investigations and inquiry activities.
