To complete the Physical Education/Health requirements,
students must complete 4 grade appropriate courses in grades 9-12.
In grade 9 and 10, all students will take a course that
combines physical activity and health components. They may also take the Hockey Academy credit
as well, but this will be a credit separate from the regular phys.ed./health
course.
In grades 11 and 12, most students will take the general
physical education/health course.
However, a select number of students will be chosen for either the grade
11 or grade 12 self-directed Phys.Ed. courses.
Students who are chosen for this have shown a high degree of physical
activity either with our school teams or outside the school, in activities like
hockey, soccer, dance and many others.
Also, we will offer 2 academies in our department: Basketball and Fitness. Both of these academies will have a health
component so either academy can be used as either a grade 11 or grade 12 credit. A student cannot use the same academy twice
as a credit.
The goal of the Physical Education department is to develop
the necessary skills to help lead an active healthy lifestyle. Through a variety of individual and team activities, we try to promote teamwork, positive social
interaction and self-esteem.
