It is hard to believe that there are just a week away from the end of this surreal 2019-20 school year. We are tremendously proud of the approximately 60 students wrote their AP exam(s) across six subject areas at the beginning of May, having to adapted to a different way of learning and AP exam format during COVID-19. And now, convocation celebrations are right around the corner with diploma ceremony from June 24 - June 26 and our first ever virtual convocation being live-streamed on June 29 at 9:00 a.m...
We truly are proud of our students, especially our graduates, who perservered over the past three months with LFH. As always, please do not hesitate to connect with your son/daughter's teachers and /or advisor if you have any questions about you're their academic progress, graduation status, or other concerns.
In the office, our staffing and timetabling for next year is complete – these are important, complicated, and challenging processes that lay the foundation for a successful 2020-21 school year.
We have some staffing announcements to share: Ms. Kathleen Crang, teacher of Science/Biology, has announced her retirement at the end of this school year. Ms. Shannon Romance, AFM counsellor, will be leaving as Pembina Trails School Division begins a different model of support for studens. Thank you to both for their years of dedicated service to students and families of our school community.
We want to thank our parent community for your patience, understanding, and support during these last months. To the parents of our soon-to-be graduates, these are special times of reflection and celebrations. We look forward to formally acknowledge your son/daughter's accomplishments at convocation from June 24 - 26, and then on the morning of June 29 at 9:00 a.m. on our website.
For returning students/families, timetables and orientation information will be mailed out on the week of August 17, 2020. Classes will resume on September 8, 2020.
On behalf of the entire staff at Shaftesbury, I would like to wish you all a safe and restful Summer. See you in September!
Dear SHS Families,
We hope that you and your family are safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. The Minister of Education has directed all classroom learning to be suspended indefinitely. We understand that this will create many questions and anxiety for students and families - especially our Grade 12s. We are taking the lead from the division's senior administrative team for further direction as they continue to communicate with provincial officials. Please click on the links below for information from Pembina Trails School Division.
We know that you and your families are being impacted in many different ways by the COVID-19 pandemic and suspension of classroom learning. As we move forward, please know that we are here to support you and we will communicate with our families via emails and Edsby as we have updated information.
If you are looking for registration information for the 2020-2021 school year, please continue to navigate our school webpage and contact our office (204) 888-5898 with further questions.
We wish you a safe and healthy Easter!
Dear Shaftesbury Families,
With second semester off to a great start, the school's focus quickly turns toward planning for the 2020-2021 school year. This begins with welcoming almost 200 grade 8 students from our feeder schools in the beginning of February. On Tuesday, February 11, we will be welcoming future SHS Titans to our annual Open House! Our teachers and students are looking forward to sharing a taste of the Shaftesbury experience with families. In March, we will be asking all current students in grades 9 to 11 to register for courses next year. Please continue to explore our webpage to see our 2020-2021 course description guide.
As the second half of the school year begins, we are paying close attention to our soon-to-be graduates in terms of their graduation status and post-secondary plans. Our student advisors will be connecting with our grade 12s' to ensure that they are on track to graduate in June 2020. How exciting!
On behalf of the Parent Advisory Council, I would like to invite SHS parents/guardians to an information evening on youth's substance use: awareness, risks, and support strategies presented by AFM on February 26, 2020 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the school library.
I'd like to finish this message by wishing Mrs. Jo Gosselin-Trapmore, our long-serving attendance secretary, a Happy Retirement. SHS will not be the same without Mrs. Trapmore's unique blend of humour, kindness, joy, and no-nonsense approach to helping students to become their better selves! We will miss her so very much!
is incredible how the Fall flew by so fast. It seems not so long ago that we
welcomed everyone back from summer holidays and now, the winter holiday is
about to begin.
has been a busy start. We began the year with the important work of teaching
about diversity, inclusion, and building a safe and caring school community.
Throughout September and October, we quickly got on track to focus on the most
important activity that needed to happen in a school – learning! We thank
you for communicating and partnering with us in all aspects to support our
was good to see so many parents at our Undergrad Awards celebration and at our
parent-teacher conferences. The very poignant Remembrance Day assembly in
November reminded all of us of the incredible blessings that come with a
peaceful existence and the incredible price members of our military (and their
families) paid on all our behalves. One of the highlights in November belonged
to the Titans Varsity Boys volleyball team for claiming the divisional
championship. It is worth noting that three of our four volleyball teams made
it to the divisional championship game in the playoff!
December, our students have been active with Annual Christmas Toy Drive, Annual
Craft Sale in support of SHS' programs, the student council, and The Winnipeg
Harvest. The RHA student athletes initiated a Koats for Kids drive and
delivered much needed winter clothing for children in the city who need them
right now. We are so proud of our students, your children, whom in addition to
engaging in the work of school to better themselves, are engaged in service
activities to better the world – bravo!
of the winter break will also bring about some staffing change. SHS will be
saying goodbye to two educational assistants, Elizabeth Dyck and Candace Hogue.
Our long-serving secretary Ms. Jo-Anne Gosselin-Trapmore has announced her
retirement on January 10th. We will miss Elizabeth, Candace, and Jo
so very much! They have each left indelible mark on the students and staff at
SHS they won’t be forgotten anytime soon. We wish them all the best.
will quickly transition into the "business end" of Semester 1 when we
return from the holidays – with ELA provincial exam for Grade 12 beginning on
January 7, Math provincial exam (Grade 12) on January 21 – 23, and school-based
exam beginning on January 24. And before we know it, we will begin our planning
for the 2020-21 school year. There truly is no business like school business!
behalf of the entire staff and administration of Shaftesbury, we wish you a Happy and Safe Holiday
and a Happy 2020!
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year.
We hope all our families have had wonderful summers and feel ready for school.
It is always a wonderful privilege to begin a school year. Nothing can quite capture the eager anticipation and excitement for students and all of us who work in schools, of new beginnings and possibilities.
We want to welcome our new families to the SHS Community and hope that you will feel at ease with us, and comfortable working with us. Please contact us throughout the year with information we might need, questions which answered will be helpful to you, and feedback which will help us improve and grow as a school community. Students have received their timetables at the end of August and please know that students wishing to adjust their timetables can continue to do so through their advisors until the end of the first week of classes.
We wish to welcome Ms. Navneet Bains (Computer Science/Electricity, Electronics Technology), Ms. Janine Bremault-Bamford (Band), Ms. Maryanne Brown (Biology/Chemistry/Science), Mr. Roger Rouire (Chemistry), Mr. Jeff Morgan (Social Studies/ELA), and Mr. Tom Miko (Mathematics/Life-Work Planning) to our teaching team. We welcome Ms. Tatiana Gericke (Library Technician) to library team and we also look forward to welcome and introduce the newest members of our new educational assistant team as soon as they have been determined. In all, we are 80 dedicated staff and 740 students strong!
In addition to our feeder schools and schools-of-choice students, international students, and student athletes from RINK Hockey Academy (RHA); Shaftesbury will be welcoming six student athletes playing for the WHL Winnipeg ICE in their up-coming inaugural season! How exciting! We look forward to a fantastic year!

|No, this isn't actually my picture. I just haven't gotten around to updating this section. It's good to know that someone is reading every last word though. Thanks!
