Who is eligible for busing?
Students in kindergarten to Grade 6 are eligible for transportation to their catchment school, if their home address is more than 1.6 km walking distance from their catchment school and they are being transported to and from a qualifying address.
Students in Grades 7-12 are only eligible for transportation if their home address is in excess of 1.6 km walking distance from the nearest public transportation stop.

How is distance measured?
We have walked all areas with a walking wheel to measure the distances. We do not use Google Maps. If you are not sure if your address is eligible, please contact our transportation department.
Can the pickup and drop off locations be different?
Eligible students are routed based on their home address or daycare. The morning pickup and after school drop off locations can be different but must be consistent. Only one morning location and one after school location can be used.
What are seats sales?
If the address students are being transported to and from is not eligible, closer than 1.6 km walking distance, or out of catchment the student must access a seat sale. It is important to note that these spaces are based on availability. This may be the case with some daycares that are located within 1.6 km walking distance of the school.
Seat sales may be available for your child. The following guidelines apply:
• The space on the bus must be regularly available.
• The location of service does not materially alter the bus route times.
• Should the space become unavailable, either due to being needed for an eligible rider or should a bus route change, the seat sale may be cancelled with not less than one day’s notice.
As Pembina Trails continues to grow and change, the number of seat sales available to students may be limited.
How much do seat sale cost?
Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our board reviewed seat sale rates, which have not changed in decades. The average cost to transport a student is $1090 per year. A careful analysis of other metro divisions’ seat sale rates was also completed, and it was noted that Pembina Trails transportation seat sale pricing was well below the current rates across all Winnipeg school divisions. This review has resulted in a plan to raise seat sale rates by $100 a year on a planned and incremental basis for the next three years. The rates for seat sales will increase for the 2020-2021 school year as follows:
- $500 for one student
- $750 for two or more students, in the same family
If your child only rides one way, the above rates are half the amount.
How do I apply?
We are using current school records to route eligible students for the 2020/2021 school year. If your child is new to Pembina Trails, please contact us at TransportationDepartment@pembinatrails.ca. We will provide you with the necessary application form for your child.
