Today, in Pembina Trails, we have heavy hearts.

Two of our students, from two different schools, were listed as passengers on board of flight PS752. The Ukraine International Airline Jet crashed near Tehran on Wednesday.

Relatives of the grade 5 and 6 students have shared that they have begun the mourning process.  Our thoughts are with family and friends during this difficult time. School staff have reached out and offered support to loved ones.

In the meantime, our focus remains on these school communities. Pembina Trails School Division’s student services team, including social workers and psychologists, are working diligently to support the needs of students. Staff will be offering additional assistance and expertise. We will continue to provide all the supports that we can to family, students and staff.

Please understand we are sharing what details we currently have. We would ask that our community allow those impacted the privacy to grieve this tragic event. To honour those who have lost their lives, we will be lowering flags at the division administration office and the schools where the two students attended.

At this time, out of respect for the families, we will not be sharing any further details on the students.
